Can You Use Sweet Potatoes in Beef Stew

Delicious, hearty, and salubrious Sugariness Murphy Stew made in the slow cooker is packed with sweetness potatoes, carrots, celery, corn, tomatoes, beef and plenty of seasoning!

Sweet Potato Stew

So, I decided to combine one of my favorite cold-weather condition recipes (stew) with my favorite veggie and that is how this sweetness white potato stew came to exist.

Not only is it packed with flavour and hearty texture, but information technology's also piece of cake to prepare. Besides a fleck of chopping, it's a "dump it all into the crockpot and forget about it" kind of meal!

Sweet Murphy Stew tips

  • Choose burn down-roasted tomatoes: Fire-roasted tomatoes have such a great flavor and add together a lot to this stew. (My favorite brands are Muir Glen® and Cento Marzano®.)
  • Beef bouillon: In that location are so many unlike options for beef burgoo; here are the exact cubes  I utilise for this stew. Choose the large ones to ensure there is plenty flavor!
  • Use burn down-roasted corn: Again, swell flavor here! If you lot don't take fresh, use frozen corn instead (no need to thaw).

How to pick a skillful sweet spud

  • I recommend skipping tan or purple-skinned sweet potatoes (known as the "dry out" varieties) and sticking with orange or cerise-skinned sweet potatoes for this stew. This diverseness (known as "moist" varieties) is sweeter and has a creamier texture. My favorite sweet potatoes are either Ruby-red Garnet or Precious stone.
  • When picking a sweet potato at the grocery store, look for house potatoes without growths or discolorations on their skins; avoid soft or wet potatoes.

QUICK TIP

Red and orangish sweet potatoes are oft labeled equally yams at the grocery store which is actually inaccurate. Truthful yams are starchier and drier than sugariness potatoes with thick and fibrous skin.

Instant pot techniques

I recently tested Sweet Irish potato Stew in the Instant Pot® and information technology worked well! The sweet potatoes did finish up a fleck mushier than when cooked in the tedious cooker, but flavors were delicious. Add together everything to the Instant Pot and cook it on the "meat/stew" setting. Allow it to release naturally for 10 minutes before doing a quick release. If you don't have the "meat/stew" setting, cook on loftier pressure for 35 minutes.

Stovetop cooking

I haven't personally tested this recipe on the stovetop, simply if you watch it a little closer and add together more liquid as needed, it should work fine. Here's a whole list of tips and tricks equally yous convert to cooking Sweetness Potato Stew on the stovetop (or in the oven).

  • 3 cups (~2 potatoes) medium-sized sugariness potatoes chopped
  • i/4 cup chopped celery
  • 1 small xanthous onion
  • 8 ounce bag mini carrots
  • one can (15 ounces) corn I use fire-roasted (or apply frozen sugariness corn or cut it off the cob!)
  • i tin (14.v ounces) diced tomatoes I utilise burn-roasted
  • one pound beef chuck roast cut into cut into 1/two-inch chunks (tin use pre-cut stew meat for super quick prep)
  • two tablespoons flour
  • ane/2 teaspoon each seasoned salt and pepper
  • 1 bay leaf
  • one teaspoon minced garlic
  • one/2 teaspoon paprika
  • i teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley
  • two beef burgoo cubes
  • ane loving cup h2o
  • Optional: fresh flat foliage parsley
  • Coat the inside of a dull cooker with not-stick spray. I utilise a half dozen-quart pot.
